In the current release of Regulations.gov, we've included a preview of summary statistics and a graphic of site content for 2009. This is the first of many forthcoming dashboard and graphic tools intended to make information from Regulations.gov more accessible and useful. So, here’s our plan:

  • Include more types of summary data
  • Dynamically generate summary data and display in real-time
  • Highlight effective dates and impacted industries
  • Display geographic areas identified or affected by regulatory actions

There are various challenges to expanding these types of tools particularly in the completeness of the source data, but we think there are benefits.

Translation tools?

We're currently exploring language translation tools for our site. Because we have not yet added this feature, you should consider using such tools provided by other sites, requiring the user to identify the desired language, and then copy and paste the text to be translated. Of course, the translation accuracy will vary across these sites.

New Data Format

I think the geographical areas affected by regulatory actions is a GREAT idea. Also if there was an interactive map of the US for each state with "mouseover" function that would include the details for each state, then click for full details, etc.

The format and layout of the graph is just as user-friendly as it should be; Nothing worse than complex, eye candy that takes the viewer away from the intended message.

Graphically, users may see the high-level processes and then drill down into low level data. This level of detail is often buried deep within the corporate enterprise and otherwise unavailable to the senior executives.

As research shows that the majority of people receive information best in visual form, presentation of info in graphic form would communicate best to the largest number of people.

Different regulations over different boundaries. This new feature will save a lot of confusion.
